Two Arrested for Stock Theft

Police arrested two men for stock theft on Thursday, 05 February 2026, following their apprehension by community members in Tweelaagte Village near Mabeskraal.

According to police reports, officers on patrol encountered a group of community members at a garage. The community had detained two suspects, aged 35 and 37, after stopping and searching their Ford Fiesta. The search revealed a quantity of meat in the vehicle.

The suspects could not provide a satisfactory account for possessing the meat and were subsequently handed over, unharmed, to the police, who placed them under arrest.

Initial investigations by the Madikwe Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES) Unit identified the owner of the slaughtered livestock through a brand mark on the remains. The owner reported that two of his Brahman cattle had gone missing from grazing lands around Letlhakeng Village in Mabeskraal between Wednesday, 21 January 2026, and the date of the arrest.

The two accused are scheduled to appear before the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 09 February 2026. They face formal charges of possession of suspected stolen property and stock theft.
