A 30-year-old man has been arrested on a murder charge after the body of a missing 23-year-old man was discovered buried at a residence in Vlaklaagte, Kwaggafontein.
The case began when police were investigating the disappearance of Karabo Kitima (23) of Vlaklaagte, who was reported missing between 01 and 05 February 2026. The investigating officer conducted enquiries with Kitima’s friends, neighbours, and relatives but could not establish his whereabouts.
A breakthrough occurred on 06 February 2026, when informers alerted the officer to suspicious activity at the suspect’s residence, specifically noting the suspect was engaged in suspicious gardening.
On 07 February, police, including the K9 Unit, responded to the premises. A police dog indicated a specific spot at the back of the property by digging. The Fire and Rescue Services were summoned to excavate the area, where they uncovered the decomposed body of a male. The clothing on the body matched the description of what the missing person was last seen wearing.
The suspect was arrested at the scene. He is expected to appear before the Mkobola Magistrate’s Court soon. Police confirm that investigations into the murder are ongoing.
