Substantial Drug Haul in Bloemfontein CBD Leads to Arrest

A targeted police operation in the Free State capital has resulted in a significant drug bust and the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect. The operation was conducted by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) on Sunday afternoon.

Acting on intelligence-led information, AGU members moved against a suspected drug dealer, described as a foreign national, operating within the Bloemfontein Central Business District. The operation took place at approximately 14:00 on 08 February 2026.

The police followed the intelligence to a local supermarket in the heart of the CBD. There, they identified and confronted the suspect. A subsequent search of the premises uncovered large quantities of various illicit drugs.

The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of R150,000. An undisclosed amount of cash was also confiscated during the operation.

The suspect was arrested at the scene. He is expected to face charges of dealing in and possession of drugs when he appears in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.

The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by Free State police to combat the trade of illegal drugs in the region.
