Eastern Cape Police Officer Arrested for Domestic Assault

A 32-year-old police constable has been arrested and disarmed following a domestic violence-related assault on his girlfriend.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape confirmed the arrest, which occurred on Saturday, 07 February 2026, at approximately 13:55 in the Zabalaza area. The suspect is attached to the Dimbaza SAPS Visible Policing (Vispol) unit.

The case stems from an alleged assault that took place on the evening of Wednesday, 04 February 2026. The constable is accused of assaulting his 23-year-old girlfriend, causing injuries to her head and face. The victim was admitted to Grey Hospital for treatment.

Police management took immediate action upon being informed of the incident on the morning of Friday, 06 February 2026. The Dimbaza Station Commander located and disarmed the officer, withdrawing his official service firearm.

After the victim formally opened a case of Assault with Intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm (Assault GBH), classified as domestic violence, on the evening of 06 February 2026, an intensive search was launched. A targeted operation on 07 February 2026 led to the suspect being cornered while driving in Zabalaza and taken into custody.

The accused has been charged with Assault GBH (DV) and is currently in police detention. He is scheduled to appear before the Dimbaza Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 February 2026.
