

A coordinated intelligence-driven operation on Thursday resulted in the arrest of two brothers on a series of serious charges. The operation was conducted by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Organised Crime Unit in collaboration with officers from Umlazi and Durban K9 units, as well as the Tactical Response Team (TRT).
Acting on gathered intelligence alleging drug dealing and that the suspects were “terrorising the Umzinto area,” police secured and executed a search warrant.
During the search, the 41-year-old suspect was found in possession of a firearm concealed under the driver’s seat of his vehicle. A subsequent search of his bedroom led to the recovery of 46 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, including rounds for an R5 rifle and a shotgun. Police also seized an additional firearm and a pair of police-issued handcuffs from the premises.
The 43-year-old brother was found in possession of drugs. A search of his bedroom yielded more drugs, a firearm, and ammunition. An undisclosed sum of cash, suspected to be the proceeds of crime, was also confiscated from the property.
The two brothers were arrested and face a slate of charges including failure to safeguard a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of and dealing in drugs. They are scheduled to appear before the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 06 February 2026.
