Police have arrested a 31-year-old man for the alleged murder of his 67-year-old uncle, Jay Simon Ngconwane.
On 2 February 2026, at approximately 05:50, police discovered Ngconwane’s body in a bedroom in Bufferzone, Intabazwe. He had multiple stab wounds to his legs and head.
Later that day, at about 14:00, officers located the suspect at his shack. Upon forced entry, the suspect allegedly attacked police with a knife. He was shot in the leg and injured during the arrest.
A search of the shack recovered a blood-stained spade, a plastic bag containing drugs, and one rifle round of ammunition.
The suspect faces charges of murder, common assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of unlicensed ammunition, and possession of drugs. He is scheduled to appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on 4 February 2026.
