Two Arrested for Illegal Diamond Trade

On Friday, 30 January 2026, Port Nolloth police arrested two men for illegal possession of unpolished diamonds.

Police acted on anonymous information about a diamond sale from a vehicle. They located a Nissan Light Delivery Van opposite the beach.

A search found a substantial amount of unpolished diamonds hidden in the vehicle’s steering wheel cover. The diamonds’ value is undetermined.

The suspects, aged 25 and 34, were arrested. They will appear in the Port Nolloth Magistrate’s Court soon.

The arrests are part of ongoing Namakwa district police operations against illegal mining activities.
