A 39-year-old female suspect was arrested for the attempted murder of a 40-year-old female victim at a retail store in the Namakgale policing area on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at approximately 08:50.
The victim was contacted en route to work by a colleague who informed her a woman was looking for her at the store. Upon arrival, the victim was packing shelves when the suspect approached. After exchanging greetings, the suspect unexpectedly stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife.
Store security personnel overpowered the suspect and rescued the victim. Police and EMS were summoned. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect was arrested at the scene. A sharp object used in the crime was seized.
Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect arrived at the store intending to harm the victim. She selected and prepared a knife from the store’s stock before the attack.
The motive is currently unknown.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 02 February 2026.
