Two Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Brutal Farm Murder and Robbery

The Free State SAPS has welcomed the sentences handed down by the Parys Regional Court against two men convicted for the murder and robbery of a local farmer in January 2025.

The convictions relate to a violent incident in the early hours of January 10, 2025, at Morelig Farm in the Parys area. The victims, Mr. Themba Motha (59) and his partner, were attacked by two assailants. Mr. Motha was fatally beaten during the assault. The assailants fled the scene with the victims’ Mahindra bakkie, copper cables, a bush cutter, and an MV battery.

The court handed down the following sentences:

  • Sandile Dlomo received 15 years for murder and a further 15 years for robbery/theft. With eight years of the second sentence ordered to run concurrently, he will serve an effective 23 years of direct imprisonment.

  • Karabo Lethoba received 15 years for murder and a further 15 years for robbery/theft. With three years of the second sentence ordered to run concurrently, he will serve an effective 18 years of direct imprisonment.
