The High Court in Kathu has sentenced a 29-year-old man from Dithakong Village, Kuruman, to two terms of life imprisonment for murder. He was also sentenced to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The sentencing was handed down on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.
The man was convicted for the murders of his 33-year-old half-sister and her 11-year-old son at their home in Dithakong Village on Saturday, 22 January 2025.
Evidence showed the accused went to the residence to demand money. After being refused, he asked for food. While waiting, he sent the boy to a shop to buy cigarettes.
Once the child left, the accused demanded his half-sister hand over a bankcard belonging to his stepmother. He stabbed her to death in a bedroom after she refused.
He then took the bankcard, locked the house, and left. On his way, he realized the child was still at the shop. He returned, waited for the boy, and killed him upon his return before fleeing again.
