Bushbuckridge police arrested a 43-year-old man on 26 January 2026 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following a public disturbance on the R40 in Dwarsloop.
The incident began when a group blocked the R40 road at Dwarsloop, GA Beretta, and GA Relane. The group forced truck drivers to park across the road and confiscated their keys. Police monitored the scene.
Officers then responded to a second group disrupting traffic at a stop-and-go section uphill. After dispersing that group, police observed one suspect carrying a firearm.
The suspect failed to produce a valid licence. Police confiscated a firearm with a filed-off serial number and 12 live rounds of ammunition.
The arrested man is charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on 27 January 2026.
