Police arrested a 29-year-old man and seized a cache of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and police-issued equipment during a raid on Thursday.
Members of the Mthatha Central Crime Prevention Unit acted on received information and conducted an operation at a homestead in the New Payne locality at approximately 05:30 on January 22, 2026.
A search of the suspect’s room led to the recovery of four unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and pieces of police uniform.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, 23 January 2026. He faces charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of police uniform, and possession of suspected stolen property.
