A 22-year-old man, William Amogelang Mahlangu, appeared in court on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, charged with murder and possession of a dangerous weapon.
The charges relate to the fatal stabbing of a 40-year-old man on Monday, 19 January 2026, at a residence in Jerusalem Village, Hlogotlou policing area. The victim, a relative of the suspect, was certified dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.
Mahlangu was arrested shortly after the incident. Police recovered and confiscated a sharp instrument believed to be the weapon used.
The court remanded the suspect in custody. His formal bail application is scheduled for 05 February 2026. Police investigations are ongoing. The identity of the deceased is withheld pending further investigation.
