Fatal School Altercation Leads to Murder Charge in Mhluzi

The Mhluzi Police have opened a murder investigation following a fatal stabbing at a local school on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.

The incident occurred during a school break when three male learners went to the rear of the school premises. Preliminary police reports indicate an argument broke out among them, escalating into a physical confrontation.

Investigations reveal that a physical altercation took place between a 20-year-old Grade 10 pupil and an 18-year-old Grade 11 pupil. During the fight, the 18-year-old was allegedly stabbed.

The suspect fled the scene immediately but was subsequently apprehended by police.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene. Upon arrival, paramedics certified the 18-year-old victim deceased.

The 20-year-old suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court in the near future to face a charge of murder.
