Suspect Arrested for Village Robbery and Burglary

Namakgale police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a house robbery and business burglary in Tlapeng Village on Sunday, 18 January 2026.

The incident occurred at approximately 02:00. The suspect allegedly entered a residential property, confronted a 40-year-old woman while armed with a wooden stick and a broken beer bottle, demanded money, and assaulted her. He stole an undisclosed amount of cash and three point-of-sale devices valued at R9,800.

An investigation revealed a tavern on the same property was also burgled, with 15 cases of liquor valued at R29,420 stolen.

The injured complainant was taken to hospital by a neighbour. The suspect was later traced and arrested. The stolen goods have not been recovered.

He is expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court on charges of house robbery and business burglary. Police investigations continue.
