The body of eight-year-old Naledi Ramaisa, reported missing on 15 January 2026, was discovered on 16 January. The discovery was made in a locked shack next to her aunt’s residence in Tambo.
According to police, Sergeant T.S. Tlali and a search team investigated the shack after noticing a foul smell. Inside, they found the child’s body in a 1,000-litre blue container.
Police identified the shack’s caretaker as a 16-year-old nephew of the owner, who was in Welkom. The teenager was fetched from school. He confessed to hitting Naledi with a rock while she was picking peaches, then placing her in the container after she fell unconscious.
The suspect was arrested for murder and will appear in court on Monday. EMS personnel declared Naledi dead at the scene. She was identified by her aunt and had an injury to her mouth.
