Suspect Evades Capture After Police Recover R1.5 Million in Dagga

Police recovered approximately 260 kg of dagga, with an estimated street value of R1.5 million, near Carolina on Tuesday, 13 January 2026. The driver of the vehicle escaped arrest.

The incident began around 07:00 when police noticed a white vehicle with Botswana registration plates. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading to a chase. The vehicle eventually stopped beside the road, at which point the driver locked it and fled on foot into a nearby maize field.

Despite an extensive search by police assisted by private security, the suspect was not located. Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, police found the dagga. The vehicle was confiscated, and no form of identification for the suspect was found inside. The search for the driver is ongoing.
