47-year-old man was found fatally stabbed inside his vehicle on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of a suspect who was first assaulted by community members.
On 13 January 2026, Westenburg Police Visible Policing (VISPOL) members responded to a complaint in Ivydale. They found a red Ford Ranger with Limpopo registration parked on a gravel road. The victim was in the driver’s seat with stab wounds to his upper body. He was declared dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.
Preliminary information suggests the victim, identified as Zimbabwean national Mr. Philip Mabusha, was called to meet suspects at the location.
Community members allegedly captured one suspect, assaulted him, and then alerted police. The injured suspect is under police guard in a hospital.
Police have opened a murder case against the suspect and a separate case of assault GBH against the involved community members. The motive is unknown, and investigations continue.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
