Two Men Arrested with Explosives

Police arrested two men for possessing explosives on the N1 North Freeway near Musina in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 January 2026.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were conducting stop-and-search duties when a red Polo Vivo passed at high speed. Police pursued the vehicle, which stopped near the Petros Truck Depot.

After obtaining consent to search the car, police found a large black bag in the boot. The bag contained 119 blasting cartridges and 24 detonating cord fuses.

The two male occupants, aged 21 and 24, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the explosives and were arrested on the spot.

They are scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, facing a charge of possession of explosives.

Police investigations are continuing.
