49-year-old man was arrested for murder after allegedly accidentally shooting his nephew.
Police were called to a local hospital at 23:47 on Sunday, 11 January 2026, following a murder complaint. They found the body of a 22-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim had been brought to the hospital by family but was declared dead.
Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred at home. The suspect stated he fired a shot, thinking there was an intruder in the kitchen, and wounded his nephew.
The firearm, its license, and seven live rounds were confiscated. The suspect will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 13 January 2026.
