A 30-year-old male suspect will appear in the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 08 January 2026, charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He was arrested on Tuesday, 06 January 2026, at approximately 15:00 next to the Thabazimbi Municipality building. The arrest occurred during a Safer Festive Season operation by South African Police Service members in the Waterberg District.
Police acted on information about a suspect carrying an unlicensed firearm to sell near the municipality. Officers located a person matching the description with a school bag. A search revealed an unlicensed firearm and a magazine with 11 live rounds. The suspect could not produce a valid license and was arrested.
