A 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation by the SAPS Phokeng K9 Unit.
Police received information about an individual selling explosives and initiated a covert operation. The suspect allegedly demanded money and led undercover officers to Freedom Park, where he sold them explosives. He was arrested at the scene.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence uncovered additional hidden explosives. The seized materials, valued at approximately R30 000, included explosive gels, detonators, starters, and stoppers.
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
