Police Seize Weapons, Arrest Man

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Roodepoort on Monday, 05 January 2026, after police found two unlicensed rifles and over 80 rounds of ammunition.

Acting on a tip, the Gauteng Organised Crime Tracing Team and Police Emergency Services Flexi unit searched a house. They discovered an AK-47 rifle, a .308 semi-automatic rifle, one magazine, and the ammunition.

The suspect was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court soon.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni praised the team’s swift action. The firearms will undergo ballistic testing to see if they were used in other crimes.
