A 23-year-old man was arrested following a business robbery and a shootout with police in Rapotokwane village on Monday morning, 05 January 2026.
Three male suspects targeted a local general dealer. Two entered the shop, one produced a firearm and threatened an employee, demanding cash. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. The second suspect stole cartons of cigarettes and a flash machine from behind the counter.
The two fled in a black Toyota Yaris driven by a third accomplice. While escaping, they encountered police on routine patrol. A shootout ensued, during which one suspect was shot. He was transported to hospital under police guard and placed under arrest.
The suspects abandoned the vehicle, which was confiscated by police. A pistol with an empty magazine was recovered at the scene.

Police have opened cases of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The arrested suspect will appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court once medically fit.
A manhunt for the two remaining suspects is ongoing.
