Arrests and Firearm Recovery in Cape Town

On Friday, 2 January 2026, members of Operation Lockdown III arrested two suspects in separate incidents.

In Bonteheuwel, while on duty in Vyeboom Street, officers saw an unknown male holding a firearm. The suspect fled and discarded the weapon during a chase. The firearm, loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, was recovered. The suspect was later arrested at an address on Vlamboom Street.

In an unrelated incident in Belhar, patrols in Erica Square witnessed a male chasing a security guard with a knife. Officers intervened and arrested a 37-year-old male for possession of a dangerous weapon and intimidation.
