Police are urgently searching for suspects following the discovery of two women murdered in their Kamagugu home on Monday afternoon, 16 December 2025.
The grim find was made after concerned neighbours, troubled by a persistent foul odour and swarm of flies at the property, reported their inability to reach the residents. Upon arrival, police found the house securely locked with no visible forced entry. With assistance from Mbombela Disaster Management to gain access, officers discovered a ransacked interior and the bodies of two victims.
The deceased have been identified by their families as 64-year-old Eunice Mahlodi and 20-year-old Eugenia Dineo Masuku. The scene pointed to a violent struggle. Masuku’s body was found in a bedroom, her hands bound with electrical cables. Investigators suspect she was strangled, as a cable was also found tightened around her neck, and bloodstains were visible in the room. Preliminary evidence suggests items, including cellphones, were stolen from the premises.
Emergency Medical Services personnel confirmed the deaths, noting the bodies were in an early stage of decomposition.
In response, the South African Police Service has registered a case for two counts of murder and convened a specialized investigative team. The probe will be led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner for Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, under an activated 72-hour action plan to apprehend those responsible.
