Three Killed, Five Injured by Lightning Strike at Church Service

Three people died and five were injured after lightning struck a tent during a church service early Sunday, 14 December 2025.

The incident occurred around 01:00 in the Radimana village, within the Senwabarwana policing area. The congregation was holding a night service inside a tent in an open field when a heavy thunderstorm began. Lightning struck the tent while the group was singing.

The eight victims, all residents of Sefihlampyana village and aged between 12 and 56, were transported to a healthcare centre. Three victims—one male and two females—were declared dead on arrival. They have been identified as Ribson Mothemane (46), Mosibudi Mokgobu (44), and Glenda Modjadji Ntjana (36).

The five surviving victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation.
