Suspected Blue Light Robbers Killed in Police Shootout

Two suspected blue light robbers were shot and killed on 14 December 2025 following a shootout with police.

A joint operation involving the Gauteng Tactical Response Team, Traffic Airwing, Detectives Tracking Team, Head Office Counter Intelligence, and private security companies acted on intelligence regarding a VW Golf 7 used in blue light robberies.

Police located the vehicle, fitted with blue lights, on the R59 road. When officers attempted to stop it, the vehicle fled, leading to a high-speed chase and an exchange of gunfire.

The suspects’ vehicle lost control and collided with a fence in Parys. Two suspects, dressed in police uniform, were found deceased inside the car.

Police recovered two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, SAPS uniforms with insignia, blue lights, sirens, and false vehicle registration numbers from the car.

Preliminary investigations link the suspects to blue light robberies on the R59 and other roads between Gauteng and Free State. Their method involved hijacking and kidnapping victims for hours while withdrawing money from the victims’ bank accounts.
