Cape Town Joint Operation Arrests Seven, Seizes Illegal Firearms

A joint operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement officers today led to the arrest of seven suspects and the seizure of three illegal firearms and approximately 60 rounds of ammunition.

Acting on intelligence regarding an alleged planned attack outside the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court, integrated police teams located a target vehicle at the scene. The suspects, aged between 18 and 64, were arrested and the weapons confiscated.

Western Cape SAPS management commended the operation, stating the proactive response saved lives by preventing what was meant to be a gang-related shooting.

All seven suspects are expected to appear in court on Wednesday, 17 December, facing charges of illegal possession of firearms.
