Woman Arrested for Illegal Gun Possession in Qumbu Raid

In a targeted intelligence operation, the OR Tambo District Task Team arrested a 37-year-old woman for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in the Nxothwe locality on Wednesday, 03 December 2025.

Acting on a search warrant, members of the task team descended on an identified homestead. During a subsequent search of the woman, authorities discovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol with its serial number intact, as well as five live rounds of ammunition.

A preliminary firearm circulation check conducted by investigators traced the weapon’s origins, revealing it was registered to a 51-year-old deceased male from Grabouw in the Western Cape. How the firearm migrated to the Eastern Cape remains a key focus of the ongoing investigation.

The suspect was promptly arrested on charges of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. She is scheduled to make her first appearance before the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, 05 December 2025.
