In a targeted operation, members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Narcotics Unit intercepted a significant drug shipment on the N12 highway in George on Friday.
The operation was launched after investigators received credible intelligence regarding a truck, travelling from Johannesburg to George, suspected of carrying narcotics. Acting on this information, officers identified and stopped the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the truck’s cabin yielded a box containing cocaine. The total weight of the confiscated drugs is six kilograms, with an estimated street value of R3.6 million.
Preliminary investigations suggest the drugs were destined for a local drug den. Authorities are also investigating the origins of the shipment as part of an ongoing probe.
A 46-year-old male, found in possession of the contraband, was arrested on the scene for dealing in cocaine. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 08 December 2025.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, commended the unit for their work. He stated that the successful interception played a critical part in preventing the drugs from reaching the streets of the province.
