The operation was conducted by the Limpopo Tracking Team, in collaboration with private security firms Tshimollo Security and Investigation and Shadow Secure Security.

According to police reports, actionable intelligence was received regarding two white Toyota Corolla Quest vehicles transporting contraband Remington Gold cigarettes from Musina towards Tzaneen. In response, operational teams immediately deployed an observation plan along the R36 route.

The suspects’ vehicles were later sighted heading towards the Tzaneen industrial area. Upon attempted interception by the teams, both drivers allegedly fled in the direction of the Tzaneen Sasol garage. A high-speed chase ensued, culminating with the vehicles being cornered near the Sasol Industrial area.

A subsequent search of the vehicles revealed that both were fully loaded with illicit Remington Gold cigarettes. Police arrested two Zimbabwean nationals, aged 37 and 48, at the scene.

The two arrested suspects are scheduled to make their first appearance before the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on 02 December 2025, facing charges of possession of illicit cigarettes.

Police investigations into the smuggling operation are ongoing.
