South African Police Service (SAPS) officials have arrested two individuals in Apel on charges of possession of suspected stolen livestock. The arrest led to the recovery of 19 goats believed to have been taken illegally.
According to a police statement, the recovered animals have been positively identified and returned to their lawful owners following the operation.

In light of the incident, the SAPS is reiterating its appeal to livestock owners to adopt proactive measures to combat stock theft. Authorities are urging owners to ensure their animals are properly marked in accordance with the Animal Identification Act, 2002 (Act No 6 of 2002).
“If an animal is marked with a registered brand mark or tattoo, disputes will be avoided,” a SAPS representative stated, emphasizing that clear identification significantly aids police in investigating stock theft and returning stolen animals to their rightful owners.
The investigation into the matter continues.
