In a significant blow to the illicit trade market, the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, in collaboration with brand protectors, has confiscated counterfeit goods with an estimated street value of R1.8 million.
The seizures were the result of a series of coordinated operations conducted across the province between November 13 and November 19, 2025. Police targeted the sale and distribution of counterfeit, contraband, and illicit goods in Roodepoort, Honeydew, Diepsloot, Sebokeng, and Johannesburg Central.
The confiscated items included a wide range of products, such as counterfeit clothing, consumables, toys, and cellphone accessories. These operations are part of the unit’s ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of counterfeit goods within Gauteng.

A spokesperson for the unit stated that the operation underscores their commitment to disrupting the supply chain of counterfeit goods. The crackdown aims to protect both consumers from potentially dangerous products and legitimate businesses from the economic damage caused by the trade in counterfeit items.
