A 49-year-old female police officer appeared briefly in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 November 2025, facing a charge of murder. The charge stems from the fatal shooting of her 31-year-old brother-in-law at her Groblersdal residence.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 16 November 2025, at approximately 02:00. According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect was asleep when she allegedly heard someone opening her door. Believing an intruder was entering her home, she reportedly fired several shots toward the door.
Upon investigating, she discovered she had shot her brother-in-law. The officer immediately transported the wounded man to a local hospital.
Police were initially alerted to the incident after the male victim was admitted to a hospital with a gunshot wound. He was later transferred to Philadelphia Hospital for further treatment, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the opening of a murder case, an investigation led to the identification of the suspect as a police officer attached to the SAPS Sekhukhune District. She was subsequently traced, arrested, and her state-issued firearm was confiscated for forensic analysis.
The case has been transferred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation. The court has postponed the matter to Friday, 21 November 2025, for a formal bail application.
