A high-level, intelligence-driven operation conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo and the North West has led to the arrest of seven notorious suspects believed to be part of a violent crime syndicate.
The six male and one female suspects, aged between 31 and 49, are linked to a series of business robberies, armed attacks, and the recent fatal robbery in Matlematlong.
According to police, the breakthrough came after a business robbery on 12 November 2025, where a victim was fatally wounded. Intelligence gathered at that scene immediately identified a white Toyota Fortuner connected to suspects known for terrorizing communities in Northam, Mogwase, and surrounding areas.
The vehicle was swiftly traced and intercepted near a local school in Northam, leading to the arrest of the driver, who was identified as a syndicate member. Information obtained during his questioning then directed officers to Rethabile Village in Amandelbult, where additional suspects linked to the gang were apprehended.
During subsequent searches, police uncovered a significant cache of evidence, including:
-
1 x AK-47 rifle

-
2 x 9mm pistols (with serial numbers removed, one confirmed as belonging to SAPS)

-
36 magazines for AK-47 and 9mm firearms
-
70 x AK-47 rounds (7.62x39mm)
-
110 x 9mm cartridges

-
Additional magazines
-
Stolen property, including a television, speakers, cigarettes, multiple cellphones, and Toyota vehicle keys
-
Clothing, gloves, and balaclavas used during the commission of robberies
In addition to the weapons and stolen goods, police confiscated the white Toyota Fortuner used in the commission of several business robberies. A Toyota Tazz, which had been stolen during a earlier robbery in Mogwase, was also recovered. It was found abandoned at the Smash Block sports ground with its registration plates removed.
The seven suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face a litany of charges.
