A 34-year-old man is in police custody following a major drug bust on the N4 highway earlier this morning, which led to the seizure of dagga with an estimated street value of R600,000.
The arrest occurred today, Sunday, 02 November 2025, at approximately 08:30. According to police reports, members of the Whiteriver Flying Squad were conducting a routine patrol on the N4, just before the Lows’ Creek turnoff, when their attention was drawn to a silver Toyota Corolla travelling towards Nelspruit.
The officers proceeded to stop and search the vehicle. During the search, they uncovered a substantial quantity of dagga. The consignment consisted of 36 packs of loose dagga contained in plastic bags, as well as one compressed block of dagga wrapped in brown tape. The total weight of the confiscated drugs was 93.6 kilograms.
The driver of the vehicle was immediately placed under arrest on a charge of dealing in dagga. Preliminary information from the suspect indicates that he was travelling from Schoemandal and was en route to the North West Province.
The suspect’s vehicle, the silver Toyota Corolla, has been impounded by authorities to undergo further investigation.
The 34-year-old suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 03 November 2025.
