Three Suspects Killed in Atteridgeville Shootout with Police

Three suspects were fatally wounded and two others injured during a violent confrontation with police on the night of Tuesday, 23 September 2025.

The incident occurred following a meticulously planned operation by the SAPS Highway Patrol, which was supported by several private security companies. The operation was launched after authorities received and operationalised intelligence regarding a group of individuals believed to be responsible for a series of hijackings in and around Pretoria.

According to police reports, a team was strategically deployed to locate the suspects’ vehicle. The targeted vehicle was spotted, and upon attempts by the police to intercept it, the suspects refused to stop, initiating a high-speed chase.

The pursuit escalated into a shootout between the suspects and the police officers. During the exchange of gunfire, three suspects were declared dead at the scene. The two surviving suspects sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the confiscation of significant evidence. Police recovered three unlicensed firearms with ammunition, signal jammers, hand gloves, and balaclavas. The suspects’ vehicle was also seized.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
