Police Nab Suspect in Armed Robbery and Rape Case

 A 37-year-old man is in police custody following a swift, intelligence-driven operation by Mankweng Detectives and a dedicated Task Team. The suspect was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a violent case of rape and robbery with a firearm that occurred earlier this month in the Nobody area of Ga-Mothiba, Morokolong.

The arrest relates to a traumatic incident that took place on the morning of Wednesday, 03 September 2025. According to police reports, a 39-year-old woman was accosted by an armed man while on her way to work. The suspect threatened the victim with a firearm, robbed her of her cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money. He then forced her to a nearby mountain where he raped her before fleeing the scene.

The victim immediately reported the crime to the police, who promptly opened a case for investigation.

Acting on gathered intelligence, the investigating team traced and positively identified the suspect. This led to his successful apprehension on Tuesday. The suspect is expected to face charges of rape and robbery with a firearm in the local magistrate’s court soon.
