A 44-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly threatening a shop employee with a firearm in the Ladanna area on Thursday, 18 September 2025.
According to police reports, officers from the Westenburg policing area responded swiftly to a complaint of a customer threatening to shoot a teller inside a local shop. Upon arrival at the scene, they found the alleged suspect still present.
During a subsequent interview, the suspect admitted to pointing a firearm at the employee. He led officers to his vehicle, where the firearm in question was recovered. A preliminary investigation then led police to the suspect’s workshop, where additional firearms were discovered.
The search was expanded to the man’s farm, resulting in the seizure of four more rifles and ammunition.
The suspect has claimed that the firearms belong to a customer who had brought a vehicle in for service at his workshop.
Despite this claim, the 44-year-old was arrested on charges of pointing a firearm and the possession of suspected unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 September 2025, to face the charges.
