A suspect is in custody and will face court on Monday after allegedly ambushing, robbing, and tying an e-hailing driver to a tree in Eldorado Park on Saturday.
According to a statement from the Gauteng Traffic Police, the incident began when the driver accepted a trip booking from Mondeor to Eldorado Park. Upon arrival at the destination, the passenger allegedly launched an attack, robbing the driver and forcing him into nearby bushes where he was tied to a tree.
The victim’s vehicle was later recovered near the scene by a combined effort of traffic police and wardens.
Through their investigation, officers traced the suspect to Joseph Flats, where they found the victim’s car keys in his possession. The swift arrest followed, with the suspect being formally charged.
“The suspect was arrested, charged, and he will appear in court on Monday,” a police representative confirmed. The statement concluded with a firm commitment: “As Gauteng Traffic Police, we are out to keep our roads and communities safer.”
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns over the safety of e-hailing drivers, who are often targeted by criminals posing as passengers.
