Father and Son Killed in Westbury Shootout Amid Funeral Preparations

A deadly shootout erupted in Westbury, Johannesburg, yesterday afternoon, leaving a father and son dead just days before they were set to attend a family funeral.

Chaotic Scene in Westbury

According to eyewitnesses, a white van was parked outside a residence, delivering materials, when an unidentified vehicle pulled up and opened fire on the occupants. The victims—a taxi owner and his son—were killed instantly in what witnesses described as a hail of bullets.

A reporter arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting, described a community in shock. “Residents gathered in disbelief, many afraid to speak on camera for fear of retaliation,” he reported.

Double Tragedy for Grieving Family

The victims were reportedly at the house to collect materials for a funeral scheduled for Saturday. Instead, the family now faces the grim task of burying three loved ones in one weekend.

“Today is Thursday; they were preparing to bury a family member on Saturday. Now, two more have been killed,” he said.

Possible Gang or Taxi Violence Link

While police have not confirmed a motive, community sources suggested the attack could be linked to ongoing gang or taxi violence in Westbury—an area frequently plagued by shootings.

Forensic teams cleaned bloodstains from the scene, and bullet holes riddled the van’s left side, indicating a brutal and targeted attack. Police removed the bodies, but no suspects have been arrested.

A Community on Edge

This marks the second fatal shooting in Westbury in recent months, following the killing of a young boy last month. Residents fear escalating violence, with many too afraid to speak out.

Authorities are investigating, but as of now, the gunmen remain at large.
