A horrific shack fire in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion, has left five family members dead, including two children, two adults, and an elderly relative. The sole survivor is now facing the heartbreaking aftermath of losing her entire family in the blaze.
Community Mourns as Investigations Continue
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services is still working to determine the cause of the fire, which broke out around 5:00 a.m. Distraught community members rushed to the scene after hearing desperate cries for help but were unable to save the family.
“We went out with buckets because the fire brigade had not yet arrived. They took time to get to the scene,” one resident recounted emotionally. “We hoped we might receive help, but we failed. My younger sister, mother, and the children also died.”
Authorities Step In to Support Survivor
Tshwane officials have pledged support for the only surviving family member. Social workers have been deployed to provide psychosocial support, and emergency services will continue monitoring the situation.
“We must support them in getting their families back to the North West,” said a city representative. “Our EMS team will continue to monitor the site, and we will stay in touch to provide ongoing support.”
The deceased will be laid to rest in the North West Province once investigations are complete.
As the community gathers to mourn, questions remain about the cause of the fire and whether earlier intervention could have prevented this tragedy.
