Police Arrest Three Suspects in Mthatha for Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Unlicensed Firearm

The Tactical Response Team, supported by Reece members based in OR Tambo District, successfully intercepted three suspects allegedly planning a business robbery in Mthatha on Friday, 06 June 2025.

According to police reports, authorities acted on intelligence about men in a vehicle plotting the crime. At approximately 12:30, a suspicious vehicle was spotted at a fuel station in Fort Gale residential area. Officers tactically approached the car and conducted a search, leading to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle with an erased serial number and two empty magazines.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen under Rondebosch CAS number. The three male suspects, aged between 22 and 38, were immediately arrested. They face charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The trio is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 June 2025, to answer to the charges.
