Paws and Pride Take Center Stage at Furr Fiesta Dog Show in White River

The annual Furr Fiesta Dog Show brought wagging tails, dazzling performances, and heartwarming stories to White River this weekend, as dogs of all breeds—and their proud owners—competed for top honors in a celebration of canine charm.

From Old English Sheepdogs strutting in style to dachshunds racing on short legs, the event was a spectacle of fun, cuteness, and community spirit—all while raising funds for ProLife Pet Rescue, a no-kill shelter dedicated to saving hundreds of animals each year.

Sisters Steal the Spotlight

Among the standout winners were Duchess and Jasmine, two eight-year-old Old English Sheepdog sisters who took first and third place in the “Loveliest Lady” category. Their owner, beaming with pride, shared their journey:

“I brought them last year as well, and Jasmine came in second. This year, I’m so happy Duchess won! They love dressing up—we bathed them last night, put their clothes on, and they were just so excited.”

The rare breed has a special place in their owner’s heart, as they are the only ones of their kind she’s seen in Mpumalanga.

More Than Just a Competition

The Furr Fiesta Dog Show featured a variety of categories, including:

  • Best Party Trick

  • Best Rescue Story (with emotional, inspiring tales)

  • Disabled Doggies (highlighting pets thriving despite challenges)

  • A first-of-its-kind “Sausage Dog Race” for dachshunds, won by 5-year-old Enzo

A Cause Close to the Heart

Beyond the fun and games, the event supported ProLife Pet Rescue, which saves 300-500 cats and dogs annually without euthanizing healthy animals.

One touching story was that of Nemo, a dog with a deformed front leg, who was adopted by a shelter volunteer. “She runs around like a puppy and lives a completely normal life,” her owner shared.

Growing Pawsitivity

Now in its second year, the show has gained momentum, with 800 attendees and 75 competing dogs—a testament to the community’s love for their four-legged friends.

With wagging tails and happy hearts, the Furr Fiesta Dog Show proved once again that when it comes to dogs, it’s not just about winning—it’s about celebrating the joy they bring into our lives.
