Bodibe Business Chamber Condemns Extortionists Disrupting Water Project

Bodibe Village, North West – The Bodibe Business Chamber has strongly condemned the alleged interference of extortionists in local water projects, following reports that a group of individuals attempted to halt construction in the village by demanding inclusion in the project.

The water project, a crucial initiative aimed at improving water access in the area, has reportedly become a target for extortion. According to the business chamber, a group posing as concerned community members has been disrupting work, leading to accusations of corruption and illegal demands.

The chairperson of the chamber labeled the group as “extortionists,” stating that such disruptions are a recurring issue for development projects in Bodibe. “Development projects in the area are often disrupted by individuals who feel entitled to a share of the funds,” the chairperson said.

Some community members suspect greed is behind the challenges, particularly given the project’s substantial R100 million contract. One resident claimed that those causing disruptions believe they are entitled to a portion of the budget, hindering progress.

Meanwhile, local residents expressed frustration over the delays, emphasizing how the water shortages severely impact daily life. “We struggle to access clean water and often have to travel long distances,” one resident said.

The local Tribal Authority has acknowledged receiving petitions about project disruptions and has called for unity among villagers to ensure development proceeds without interference.

The Bodibe Business Chamber has urged authorities to take action against those responsible, stressing that such disruptions deprive the community of essential services.
