Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Investigation to immediately trace the suspects involved in the fatal killing of three persons and the injuring to another two in Qonce on the night of 25 July 2023.
It is alleged that at about 18:00, the five victims were on the pavement in Victoria Street near a car wash when two unknown men approached and started shooting at them.
Three males succumbed to their injuries on the scene while two others sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no suspects have been arrested. The victims are aged between 30-38 years old. Names of the deceased are still being verified by police.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, D/Lt Col Mthuthuzeli Mohammed on 082 441 9230 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

Lt Gen Mene is calling on communities assist police in identifying and locating the suspects as soon as possible. “Criminals are living within the communities and often they may have valuable information and insights that can assist in our investigation. We cannot allow criminals to be brazen hence we need community cooperation in order to create a safer environment for everyone. Our team of experienced detectives will be working around the clock to ensure that these suspects are apprehended,” added Lt Gen Mene.
